The Perfect NYC Picnic Takeout Guide

mandy ansari girl and the your guide to the best park picnic in nyc

Prospect Park

SWEET CHICK

Sweet Chick is well-known for their chicken and waffles combo that has stolen the city’s heart completely and in case you didn’t know, Sweet Chick is co-owned by famous rapper Nas. This is one of Mandy’s favorite restaurants (she has a huge crush on the chef, check him out of you’ve got the time, she is serious about this crush).

Prospect Park

Prospect Provisions

Prospect Provisions is dubbed one of the best sandwiches in Brooklyn which is obviously a huge title. They have 116 five-star reviews on Yelp for a reason. These creative sandwiches are the perfect addition to your picnic plans in Prospect Park.

Prospect Park

Kulushkat

Kulushkat is one of the best middle eastern restaurants in Brooklyn, serving up amazing falafel and an amazing Israeli salad. Kulushkat has amazing vegan and vegetarian options — make sure to try the hummus and or any of the sandwiches if you order take out.

Prospect Park

Bahnmigos

The best Vietnamese sandwich you’ve ever had is waiting for you at Banhmigos in Park Slope. Banhmigos is fast, has incredibly kind employees (we LOVE to hear it) and the boba tea is equally as amazing.

Prospect Park

James Provisions

James Provisions is a Park Slope neighborhood staple (and a Michelin star restaurant) that offers an array of options to meet your picnic needs, no matter what they may be. If you’re looking for recommendations, the burger is an amazing, picnic friendly menu choice that you’ll love.

DOMINO PARK

SUNDAYS IN BROOKLYN

Sundays in Brooklyn is a dream in nearly every sense of the word. The grain bowls and matcha lattes are always a good idea and especially wonderful picnic options. If you’re planning to spend some time in Prospect Park, make sure to place an order for pick-up at Sundays and thank us later.

DOMINO PARK

Roberta’s

Roberta’s is basically inside of Domino Park which makes this amazing pizza joint a really good choice for a picnic date in the park. All of Roberta’s pizzas are amazing and authentic wood-fired pizzas. If you grab a few pizzas for the park, add in the banana pudding for dessert.

DOMINO PARK

12 CHAIRS

12 Chairs is a quaint and fresh Israeli spot right by the park, offering a wonderful breakfast all day long and great menu full of authentic middle eastern food. 12 Chairs is a must if you’re in Williamsburg and what better way to enjoy one of the neighborhood’s best restaurants than waterside, overlooking the Manhattan skyline?

DOMINO PARK

Tacocina

Tacocina is within Domino Park, like actually in the park, and they’re serving up tacos and amazing cocktails that you’ll absolutely love. If you’re not wanting to go far, go with Tacocina to have your cake and eat it too.

DOMINO PARK

MARLOW + SONS

Marlow + Sons

If Williamsburg was a restaurant, it would be Marlow + Sons. Locals love this place and one experience at Marlow + Sons is all of the convincing you’ll need to understand the hype. Casual, cool, and delivering an unmatched food experience every time. Order takeout and share some oysters in the park with your BFF’s for a guaranteed good time.

DOMINO PARK

BARANO

Barano is a casual Italian staple in Willamsburg off of Broadway, offering amazing drinks, Italian wine, wood-fired pizzas, and cacio e pepe ravioli. You can also order pint-sized Aperol spritz, margarita, or negroni from Barano and that is really all the reason you need to put your order in before you head to the park.

DOMINO PARK

BUTLER

Butler is one of my favorite spots in Williamsburg (and it is a swift three minute walk from my apartment which is prime). They are always serving up an amazing breakfast, brunch, and lunch, so reserve your Butler order for an earlier-houred date in Domino Park. The coffee and beverage selection is wonderful, the food is fresh, light, healthy and filling, and the pastries are absolutely divine.

DOMINO PARK

LA SUPERIOR

La Superior is like the aunt or uncle that you can always count on who is solid as a rock and delivers every time. Make sure you bring cash when you roll up to this Mexican taqueria because you’ll need it. La Superior is an amazing choice if you’re feeding a big group and don’t wanna bust a budget.

CENTRAL PARK

HOT DOG LADY

First and foremost we have to mention the infamous Hot Dog Lady — Mandy’s personal fave if you’re around Central Park. While there is no aesthetically pleasing Instagram filled with drool-worthy hot dog pics, she has a fully loaded Facebook page here where you can get her address and some semi-regular updates and photos from the best hot dog stand in NYC.

CENTRAL PARK

ZABAR’S

Zabar’s has really earned the stout and sturdy reputation that it holds. If you haven’t heard of Zabar’s yet, you’ve got to make a point to drop in so you can experience a quintessential New York food moment. Grab some soup, a bagel, a sandwich, cheese, crackers, any beverage you could dream of, and frolic around in Central Park like you don’t have a worry in the world.

CENTRAL PARK

PLAYA BETTY ‘S

Playa Betty’s is the spot to go to grab the best taco’s and coastal-inspired Californian grub in the UWS, making it a perfect drop by on your route to Central Park. The guac here is amazing and the drinks are to-die-for.

CENTRAL PARK

PASTRAMI QUEEN

Mandy loves a pastrami sandwich and the Pastrami Queen is dubbed the queen for a reason. These sandwiches are truly unreal and Pastrami Queen has taken the crown since 1956. This sandwich is something you need in your life ASAP.

ansley eudy

Ansley Eudy

Never passing up an opportunity for a laugh or a big hug, you can find Ansley, complete with her Atlanta accent and ray-of-sunshine-personality in Brooklyn.

Born and raised in Georgia, Ansley spent most of her early twenties living on the beautiful Florida panhandle and spent a little over a year in Charlotte, NC before finally planting her roots and her heart in Brooklyn.  When she’s not behind-the-scenes for Girl and The, she’s very likely to be holding a baby somewhere, organizing a closet, or jogging in Prospect Park listening to her favorite trap music or psychology podcast.

Ansley brings attention detail, incredible penmanship, an obsession with streamlining processes and order to everything she touches, as well as a love for self-help and mental health. She’s a proponent of therapy and will encourage everyone she knows to never be afraid to ask for help or invest in their own wellness journey. Needless to say, she is an integral part of the team.
